Introduction of Attendees

  • PSEG - Salem Gregory Sosson - Director Salem Engineering Sam Markos - Salem Design Engineering Manager Kiran Mathur - Senior Engineer, g , Salem Design g Engineering g g Paul Duke - Licensing Manager Emily Bauer - Lead Engineer Licensing
  • Sargent & Lundy Bob Peterson - Senior Manager, Nuclear Plant Analysis Helmut Kopke - Project Associate 2, Nuclear Plant Analysis 3

Recent NRC/PSEG Correspondence Regarding GSI-191 PSEG submitted Updated Supplemental Response to Generic Letter 2004 02 on April 27, 2004-02 27 2012 PSEG discussed fiber debris preparation methods with NRC during a phone call on November 28, 28 2012 NRC provided PSEG with a list of 18 questions regarding bypass testing on December 33, 2012 PSEG provided NRC with a responses to all 18 questions on February 21, 2013 4

Bypass Testing Fiber Debris Preparation

  • Differences between 2006 and 2008 fiber debris preparation methods were minor:

Fibers not baked in 2006 Fibers leaf shredded in 2006 and hand cut in 2008

  • CCI fiber preparation methodology is generally consistent with the January 2012, NEI guidance with a few minor deviations:

Hot plate heating versus oven baking Fiber to water ratio prior to blasting

  • Fiber be ppreparation epa at o methodology et odo ogy used for o Sa Salem e was as p previously e ous y presented to the NRC during a phone call on November 28, 2012, and was found to be acceptable 5

Strainer Fiber Bypass Testing Overview

  • St Strainer i fib fiber bypass b tests t t were performed f d att CCI vendor d

facility in 2006 and 2008

  • 2006 Fiber Bypass Testing Primarilyy used NUKON insulation for testing Used CCI typical yp 1-Sided MFTL configuration Tested multiple strainer sizes (i.e. different approach velocities) 6

Strainer Fiber Bypass Testing Overview

  • 2008 Fiber Bypass B pass Testing Tests done to show Grab Sample Location 2006 test results were conservative Test T t module d l was prototypical Used NUKON, NUKON Fiberglas, &

Kaowool for testing Fiber Bypass Capture S

Screen L Location ti

  • Comparison between the two tests showed that 2006 test results envelope 2008 testing 7

Discussion on NRC Bypass Testing Questions

  • NRC provided PSEG with 18 questions regarding Salem bypass testing on December 3, 3 2012
  • Responses p to NRC qquestions were p provided to NRC on February 21, 2013 8
