Your thoughts Ladies and Gentlemen, Well, we passed the first milestone on this path!
Please send me your thoughts of this afternoon's meeting with Duke and I'll pass them on to DORL for discussion for our next working group meeting. We now know that they intend to parse away the dam failure
.frequency and apportion partial dam failures to create some sort of class of flood heights. We have to sit down and prepare something to address this and other things we heard from the meeting, whether pro or con.
I spoke briefly with Steve Nader after the meeting and he was trying to justify the kitchen sink approach for the denominator of the frequency. When I pointed out to him that to make all things equal, he would have to include the 34 failures in the numerator, he admitted that it was not Duke's intention to mix inconsistent data in numerator and denominator.
Gary Demoss of RES has also volunteered to use his resources to try to fine tune the dam failure frequency in parallel to what Duke is trying to do. More to follow on how we would want to proceed with that (I still think that Duke's logic is faulty in that Jocassee is not so unique that it can be separated from the population).
Once again, thanks for your attendance and a special thanks to Lenny, Jon, and Kosmas for last minute logistical support.
Jeff.
