Dear NRC Chairwoman MacFarlane and Commissioners Svlnlcki,

Apostolakls, Magwood and Ostendorff, On behalf of the Brae Chamber of Commerce, I urge you to join us in supporting the safe start of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Unit 2 reactor. The Brea Chamber represents more than 3,500 businesses, employing nearly 40,000 workers, and our community deserves a reliable and affordable energy source.

The shutdown of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 2 was performed according to all prescribed safety procedures, and area residents were not adversely affected by the system problerT3 which triggered the shutdown. During the many decades of operation prior to the shutdown, there have been no environmental issues. After reviewing the action plan and judging from past performance, we are oonfident that Southern California Edison will conduct the restart and future operations in a safe and responsible manner.

Requiring Southern California Edison to develop alternative sources of energy to offset the loss of power generated by San Onofre will result in millions of dollars of research and Infrastructure Investment, costs which will then be passed onto rate payers who are just beginning to recover from an oppressive economic recession.

Alternative generation sources could take decades to develop and bring online. While In the long-term, additional energy sources may be necessary to meet Southern California's growing energy demands, our businesses cannot afford to wait for reliable energy that they need today nor are they capable of bearing those additional costs In the near future.

Chamber board members have attended recent Nuclear Regulatory Commission public meetings. They have expressed significant concern that the impact of a permanent SONGS shutdown on the business community Is not being given proper consideration. Our economy is extremely fragile. To have more businesses leave the state In search of lower energy costs, or more businesses close due to an inability to keep operations running reliably, will send California back Into deep recession. I urge you to support the restart of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Unit 2 reactor.
