reply - Millstone Emergency TS Amendments

Trent, I understand the EDO is interested in what is going on with Millstone. The email below is a short description of the issue that the Project Manager (Jim Kim) prepared for our OPA folks.

Please feel free to contact Jim if the EDO would like more detail.

Millstone Emergency TS Amendments Despite the issuance of emergency TS amendment on August 10, 2012 and other engineering attempts to gain margin, Millstone Unit 2 exceeded their ultimate heat sink limit and commenced a TS required shutdown on Sunday, August 12. Unit 3 has more margin than Unit 2 in UHS temperature limit due to design differences, but if the Long Island Sound keeps heating up, Millstone 3 could face a similar situation. Millstone is planning to submit emergency TS amendments for both Units 2 and 3 on August 20, and August 21, 2012 respectively to raise the UHS temperature limit by 2 degrees from 75°F to 77TF.
