Dear Mr Issa:

The San Clemente Watershed Task Force is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving our local ocean environment. I am writing to you today regarding the upcoming Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) consideration of restarting San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station (SONGS) Unit 2. Our position is to encourage the NRC to provide reasonable and unbiased consideration of the safety of SONGS. If the NRC finds that SONGS can operate safely, then the station should be restarted.

With growing electricity demand, businesses and organizations in California will need even more clean, reliable and efficient electricity to keep running without interruption day and night. Being an environmental organization, our focus is clearly on the "clean" aspect of the energy SONGS provides. Compared to fossil fuel generation, SONGS has helped to avoid over 100,000 metric tons of smog producing pollutants and over 180 million metric tons of carbon emissions.

This is the type of environmentally friendly partner that we are proud to have in our community.

We would like to note that SONGS has been an exemplary environmental partner in our city. They have provided material assistance for several of our community environmental programs. As such we view SONGS as an excellent corporate citizen in our continuing mission to educate the public and improve the ocean environment.

We look forward to a continued partnership with SONGS for years to come.

Sincerely,

ýTxov,ý Nanci Mavar Executive Board Senator Dianne Feinstein 331 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Senator Barbara Boxer 112 Hart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510
