Dear Mr. Collins,
The Redorndo Charriber of Commerce represents over 600 businesses and thousands of employees in the South Bay R:egion of Southern California. We have reviewed the recent information and Southern California Edison request for the start up of Unit number 2 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. We understand considerable public review is and has taken place and a safe trial startt up For this One general:ing unit begin proposed. Reliable electricity is important I:o the businesses we represent in the South Bay. We undefstand the power limitations to the electric grid during peak times of electrical demand. The summer is a potential concern to the large businesses in Aerospace we represent.
As our communities slowly emerge from an externded econornic downturn, it is imperative that a sale, reliable and cost effective electricity supply go uninterrupted for thousands of employers who depend on around the clock access to power.- much of which is provided by SONGS.
Regardless of the time of year, SONGS is critical ro the reliable operation of the region's electrical grid. This ensures businesses and residents in our region have access to power even during peak conditions, minimizing economic disruption from brownou,,ts and other grid failures. Since each surnmer varies in terms of climate, it is common for heatwaves to drain Southern California's power supply and put businesses at risk of shutdown due to grid failure. Our employers need reliability in our power s;upply to avert additional economic hardships.
Please proceed with the public hearings and process that will allow SONGS Unit number 2 to operate for a.5 morth trial period. We hope the electricity that can be generated from this facility will be available during the summer of 2013 so the potential power shortages can be minimized. We urge your final review and authorization for the starting of SONGS unit number 2.
