Close San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant
Dear Dr Macfarlane,
The San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant was initially built in the 1960's. The population surrounding the plant (Los Angeles to the North and San Diego to the South) has exploded since then.
Southern California is an earthquake sensitive zone - The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has been telling us for years to prepare for "The Big One".
Both existing reactors are currently off-line due to premature wear found in tubes of recently replaced steam generators.
Please close the plant permanently.
Nuclear power has a place in the United States Energy Plan, but not in this location.
Thank you.
