Dear Sir or Madam:

By letter dated March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a Request for Information (RFI) calling for licensees to assess their current communications systems and equipment used during an emergency event given a set of standard assumptions. Enclosed is SCE's response to the questions from the referenced letter. contains the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Communications Assessment. The assessment was conducted in accordance with the guidance provided in NEI 12-01, Revision 0, Guideline for Assessing Beyond Design Basis Accident Response Staffing and Communications Capabilities. Document Control Desk October 29, 2012 Identifies planned and potential improvements to existing offsite communications systems and their required normal and/or backup power supplies, Provides a description of new communications system(s) or technologies that will be deployed based upon the assumed conditions described above, and Provides a description of how the new and/or improved systems and power supplies will be able to provide for communications during a loss of all AC power.

This letter contains regulatory commitments. The specific regulatory commitments and the schedule dates for implementation of the results of the communications assessment are identified in Enclosure 1 of this letter. The planned improvements are in the process of being completed. The potential solutions will be evaluated and implemented by December 31, 2016.
