Suggestions for Chairperson Macfarlane... (resend with an obvious typo fixed...)

9/22/2012

Dear Chairperson Macfarlane,

In a few minutes you w:Lll be meeting with Gene Stone. Last night he asked me to prepare a document for him to print out and present to you, and I wrote it (shown below) but sent it to Gary Headrick instead of Gene, and thus, Gene never saw it.

I would greatly appreciate it if this could be considered a submission with his other documents. If you get this in time to inform him that you received this email, he would be tickled pink I'm sure and relieved as well.

Best wishes in your new position as Chairperson of the NRC.

Sincerely, Ace Hoffman Carlsbad, CA 9/21/2012 Hi Gene, Thank you for the opportunity to present some information to the new Chairperson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Allison Macfarlane.

Unfortunately, not much can be said in one page. Perhaps worse, it is almost impossible to educate a commissioner about the many problems we've identified with nuclear power before his/her commission is up -- it only lasts a few years. It took me nearly 40 years of study before I dared to write a book about nuclear issues. You can't learn this stuff overnight.

On a radio show last week about San Onofre I was "broadsided" by the host, who neglected to tell me he was a former control room operator at San Onofre after asking me before had to send my resume, and a list of questions I'd him to ask, and so forth. During the 1-hour interview he suddenly asked me, "have you ever worked in a reactor control room?"

It's too bad I hadn't watched Allison Macfarlane's Press Club video from last month -- she heads the commission but (at least as of then) had never even set foot at a nuclear reactor (according to a comment she didn't deny by one of the reporters)! Well, I've done that much

-- Connecticut Yankee, decades ago. Sharon went, as well.

So I would like to urge the new Commissioner to read my book, The Code Killers, available online at my web site ( www.acehoffman.org ), and to also read three pdfs I've added since then:

Shut San Onofre ( http://goo.gl/tvEP2 ), How to Deal With Spent Fuel Fires (

http://goo.gl/vciPQ5 ) and Nuclear Power: No Better Than Ever ( http://goo.gl/5W3mE )

Alo, Ihope she will start reading my nuclear blogs and start requiring NRC staff members to do so as well: <http://www.acehoffman.blogspot.com/>http://www.acehoffman.blogspot.com/

If/when Chairperson Macfarlane realizes how bad the situation really is, she'll be asked to resign, of course! But someone has to have the moral fortitude to shut this failed industry down for good. It might as well be Allison Macfarlane, since she's in the driver's seat now.

No time like the present to start "phasing out" nuclear power by keeping SanO shut forever.

Sincerely, Ace Hoffman Carlsbad, CA
