SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF JUNE 14, 2012, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE REQUEST FOR PARTIAL SITE RELEASE FOR CLINTON POWER STATION (TAC NO. ME7794)

On June 14, 2012, a Category 3 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and members of the public in the vicinity of Clinton Power Station at The Vespasian Warner Public Library District, 310 1\\1. Quincy St., Revere Ware Room, Clinton, Illinois. The purpose of the meeting was to obtain public comments on the Exelon Generation Station, LLC (EGG) request for partial site release dated November 18, 2011 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML11340A077).

Pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulation, Section 50.83 (10 CFR 50.83), "Release of part of a power reactor facility or site for unrestricted use," EGC requested approval to transfer four acres of property to Creek Township to expand the Lisenby Cemetery. In accordance with 10 CFR 50.83, as part of the review process, the NRC staff held this public meeting in the vicinity of the site. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.

The meeting was focused around three topics: (1) to provide an overview of the partial site release process; (2) to provide the focus of the NRC review process; and, (3) to obtain public comments on the proposed partial site release. The NRC staff described the steps and responsibilities of the partial site release and described some of the specific health physics and environmental reviews that are performed during the review process. The NRC staff also took the opportunity to explain the NRC role as a regulator for the nuclear industry.

Members of the public were in attendance. Public Meeting Feedback forms were not received.

Verbal comments received included the following: comments in support of the transfer of property to the township, and questions regarding the NRC role in the partial Site release.

These comments will be considered as part of the review and dispositioned in an enclosure in the final decision of the NRC.
