SURRY POWER STATION UNIT 2 REACTOR COOLANT SYSTEM STANDPIPE LEVEL INDICATION SYSTEM By letter dated May 10, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provided its final significance determination for the inspection finding associated with the Surry Unit 2 Reactor Coolant System (RCS) standpipe level indication system, as discussed in NRC Inspection Report Nos. 05000280/2012007 and 05000281/2012007. In that letter the NRC concluded that, based on new information presented by Dominion during the April 19, 2012 regulatory conference, the bases for the finding and associated apparent violation were no longer valid.
During the regulatory conference, Dominion stated that it is committed to either identifying and correcting the definitive cause of the erratic Surry Unit 2 RCS standpipe level indication or replacing the existing system with a reliable RCS level indication system during the next Unit 2 refueling outage. This letter serves to confirm that commitment. Furthermore, the repair/replacement activities will ensure that the Generic Letter 88-17 specifications for independent, reliable, and continuous RCS water level indication during reduced inventory conditions are met and maintained.
