May 3, 2012 We the undersigned recognize that:

i) Nuclear power plants routinely release radiation as a normal part of operation; and that

2) Nuclear power plants create nuclear waste which remains dangerous for thousands of years and there is no federal government approved technology for permanent disposal of high-level nuclear waste; and that
3) The January 2012 radiation leak at SONGS was caused by poorly engineered major design changes to the new steam generators; and that
4) The San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant has the worst safety record of all U.S. nuclear reactors according to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) safety allegation data; and that
5) 8.4 million people live within a 50 mile radius of the San Onofre Nuclear Plant and there is no safe way to evacuate this number of people in case of an emergency at the plant; and that
6) San Onofre Nuclear Plant was designed for a 7.o earthquake, but sits within 5o miles of 3 known faults capable of 8.o earthquakes - lO times more powerful and long overdue. Further, it sits right on the Pacific Ocean and has a Tsunami wall that is only 15 feet high at high tide.

In light of these understandings we call upon our elected officials, The NRC, and our fellow citizens to TERMINATE the production of nuclear power at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
