SUMMARY
OF PUBLIC MEETING On Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at 5:30 p.m., the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a public open house at the Brattleboro Union High School in Brattleboro, VT.
Following the open house, the NRC held a public meeting from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The NRC conducted the open house and public meeting to discuss its assessment of the safety performance at Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (Vermont Yankee) for 2011.
A notice of the open house and public meeting was issued on April 30, 2012, and was posted on the NRCs external (public) Web page. The meeting notice can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) with Accession No. ML12121A628. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web page at: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
The NRC presented poster boards and was available to discuss its assessment of the safety performance of Vermont Yankee for the period of January 1 through December 31, 2011, as documented in our letter dated March 5, 2012 (ADAMS Accession No. ML12061A247). The NRC poster boards included background on the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). Additional information relative to the NRC's Annual Assessment Process and the safety performance of Vermont Yankee can be found on the NRC's web site at:

Members of the public, local officials, State officials, and members of the media attended the open house and public meeting and were offered the opportunity to question the NRC regarding Vermont Yankees performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations.
