Virtual Private Network (VPN) Transition of the Emergency Response Data System (ERDS)
In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI, Item 3b, Duke Energy is submitting a notification of changes to the Catawba Nuclear Station, Unit 1 and Unit 2 Emergency Response Data System (ERDS).
In cooperation with the NRC, VPN (Virtual Private Network) equipment has been installed to establish links between Catawba Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 and the NRC (via a Nuclear Generation central ERDS server). It is our intention to transition the ERDS data transmission methodology from the existing modem-based system to the new VPN system in May, 2012 in coordination with the NRC. There will be no changes to the Data Point Library information for Catawba as a result of this transition.
