By letter dated March 12, 2012, (Agencywide Document Access Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML12079A034), STP Nuclear Operating Company (the licensee) submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and approval Relief Request RR-ENG-3-08 for South Texas Project (STP), Unit 2. The licensee requested relief from IWA-5250 of Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
To complete its review, the NRC staff request for additional information (RAI) described in the attachment.
STP Nuclear Operating Company has requested for an expedited review (approval by April 7, 2012) in support of the upcoming STP, Unit 2 refueling outage. The NRC staff may not be able to process the request formally, however, it was agreed that the NRC staff will provide temporary verbal authorization as per provisions of LIC-102, Relief Request Reviews based on the results of its review. You are requested to provide a formal response to the RAI by March 29, 2012 to enable the NRC to complete its review before processing of the temporary verbal authorization. Please note that any delay in providing the responses to RAI by requested date may impact the temporary verbal authorization schedule.
Please advise if RAI clarification conference call is needed. Also, please treat this e-mail as forma request for additional information.
