Virtual Private Network (VPN) Transition In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI, Item 3b, Duke Energy is submitting a notification of changes to the McGuire Nuclear Station, Unit I and Unit 2 ERDS.
Changes involve a conversion from a dial-up modem-based system to a more reliable internet based system using a plant information server and NRC supplied Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliance. Initial installation and testing of ERDS VPN has been completed, and Duke Energy has scheduled the implementation date for ERDS VPN for April 9, 2012. No changes were made to the data point libraries for McGuire.
This letter provides the 30-day notification to the NRC that the McGuire ERDS VPN system will be ready to place in service by April 9, 2012.
