Subject:
Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1, 2 and 3 Docket Nos.: 50-269, 50-270 and 50-287 Request for Regulatory Conference By letter dated September 7, 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provided Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy) with the results of Integrated Inspection Report 05000269/2011017, 05000270/2011017, and 05000287/2011017. The report described three (3) potentially greater than green apparent violations (AVs) and one (1) non-cited violation (NCV). Subsequent to this report, on October 4, 2011, Duke Energy received a follow-up NRC Inspection Report (050000269/2011018, 050000270/201 1018, and 0500000287/2011018), that re-characterized two (2) of the AVs to a NCV and added a new AV.
The October 4, 2011, letter provides the option of either responding to the AVs in writing or at a Regulatory Conference. This letter is to inform you of Duke Energys decision to request a Regulatory Conference.
The October 4, 2011, letter indicated that the Regulatory Conference should be held within 30 days of receipt of the letter. Due to the complex nature of the inputs and assumptions associated with the AVs, Duke Energy will be seeking an extension beyond 30 days. Duke Energy management will work with Region II management to establish a mutually agreeable meeting date.
Duke Energy intends to provide the NRC with supporting documentation for the presentation as outlined in the October 4, 2011 letter.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this request, please contact Stephen C. Newman, Oconee Nuclear Station Regulatory Compliance Group, at 864-873-4388.
Sincerely, T. Preston Gillespie, Jr.,
