November 9, 2011 Mr. Timothy S. Rausch Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer PPL Susquehanna, LLC 769 Salem Boulevard Berwick, PA 18603-0467

SUBJECT:

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF READINESS FOR NRC 95002 SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENTS TO THE BIENNIAL PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION AND RESOLUTION TEAM INSPECTION SCHEDULE

Dear Mr. Rausch:

On September 22, 2011, William Dean, Darrell Roberts, David Ayres, Paul Krohn, Jim Trapp, and Allyce Bolger of the NRC received a drop-in visit from PPL Nuclears Russ Kearney (Site Vice President), Jeff Helsel (Plant Manager), Mike Crowthers, (Manager - Degraded Cornerstone Project), and John Petrilla (Manager - Regulatory Affairs). The purpose of the visit was to discuss the performance of PPLS Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) including root cause assessment results, supplemental inspection preparations, the SSES Excellence Plan, and recent culture survey results.

During the meeting PPL management informed the NRC that PPL would be ready for Inspection Procedure 95002, SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION FOR ONE DEGRADED CORNERSTONE OR ANY THREE WHITE INPUTS IN A STRATEGIC PERFORMANCE AREA, during February 2012. Furthermore, on October 11, 2011, Mr. John Petrilla spoke to Paul Krohn and confirmed that PPL would support the on-site portions of the 95002 supplemental inspection during the weeks of February 13 and February 27, 2012.

Given the impending 95002 supplemental inspection during February 2012, the NRC also agreed to consider the timing of a January 2012 biennial Problem Identification and Resolution (PI&R) team inspection. After subsequent internal reviews, the biennial PI&R team inspection was rescheduled for the weeks of July 9 and July 23, 2012.

Please contact me at (610) 337-5120 with any questions you have regarding this letter.

Sincerely,

/RA/
