The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of STP Nuclear Operating Company held a telephone conference call on October 31, 2011, to discuss and clarify the staff's requests for additional information (RAls) concerning the South Texas Project, license renewal application. The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the intent of the staff's RAls. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the RAls discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the status of the items.

REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TWO RAIS in RAI SET 7 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION OCTOBER 31,2011 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of STP Nuclear Operating Company (STP) held a telephone conference call on October 31,2011, to discuss and clarify the following requests for additional information (RAls) concerning the license renewal application (LRA).

RAJ 82.1.14-4 (Original RAI) Request Provide the frequency for draining, cleaning, and inspection of the balance-of-plant (BOP) day tanks and standby diesel generator (SDG) drain tanks. If the frequency is greater than 10 years, please discuss how it is consistent with the Generic Aging Lessons Learned Report recommendation of draining and cleaning of diesel fuel tank internal surfaces at least once every 10 years during the period of extended operation Discussion:

B2.1.14-4: The applicant and staff both agreed that the SDG drain tanks have already been addressed satisfactorily, so that only discussion of the BOP day tanks is needed.

Staff will revise this RAJ accordingly.

RAI 82.1.8-2 Discussion:

This RAI identifies the issue of steam generator divider plate assemblies and their component materials, to the effect that those divider plates of Alloy 600 or other primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC)-susceptible materials may be susceptible to PWSCC, particularly in the weld areas and the stub runner portion. The applicant stated that this issue was identified and discussed in their Amendment 2 submittal to the LRA, dated June 16, 2011 - that the SG divider plate assemblies are made of Alloy 690 and related weld fillers, so that PSWCC is not an issue for the STP SG divider plates. Staff agreed that Amendment 2 supplies the needed information, and that the RAI is no longer needed. This RAI will be dropped from the list.
