Dear Mr. Perito:

On November 1,2011, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the Entergy Operations, Inc. application dated October 28,2011 for renewal of the operating license for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1. We are currently performing an acceptance review for docketing in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 2.101 (10 CFR 2.101), and will notify you of the results of our review. Should the NRC staff determine that the application is acceptable for docketing, a schedule for the review will then be provided to you.

We have enclosed for your information a copy of the notice relating to your application that is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nathaniel Ferrer as the project manager for the safety review, and Mr. David M. Drucker as the project manager for the environmental review of your license renewal application. Please forward copies of all license renewal correspondence to Mr. Ferrer or Mr. Drucker. Mr. Alan Wang continues to remain responsible for the project management of all issues other than license renewal for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1.

NOTICE OF RECEIPT AND AVAILABILITY OF APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-29 FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20-YEAR PERIOD The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or Commission) has received an application, dated October 28, 2011, from Entergy Operations, Inc., filed pursuant to Section 103 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54), to renew the operating license for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). Renewal of the license would authorize the applicant to operate the facility for an additional 20-year period beyond the period specified in the current operating license. The current operating license for GGNS (NPF-29) expires on November 1, 2024.

GGNS is a boiling water reactor designed by General Electric. The acceptability of the tendered application for docketing, and other matters including an opportunity to request a hearing, will be the subject of subsequent Federal Register notices.

Copies of the application are available to the public at the Commission's Public Document Room (PDR), located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland 20852 or through the internet from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Public Electronic Reading Room under Accession Number ML113080132. The ADAMS Public Electronic Reading Room is accessible from the NRC web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
