"On August 31, 2011, at about 1930 PDT, Southern California Edison (SCE) discovered a live sea turtle in the Unit 3 Circulating Water Intake Structure. At 0805 PDT on September 1, 2011, SCE notified the National Marine Fisheries Service that a live sea turtle of unknown species was discovered in the SONGS Unit 3 Intake Structure. The sea turtle was removed from the Intake Structure, and will be held for examination by a team from the National Marine Fisheries Service prior to being returned to the Pacific Ocean. SCE is reporting this event in accordance with 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi).
"At the time of this report, both Units 2 and 3 were in Mode 1 at 100% power.
"The NRC Resident Inspectors have been notified of this occurrence and will be provided with a copy of this report."
