Dear Mr. Keel:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is considering an application submitted by NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC, for the renewal of the Seabrook Station, Unit 1 (Seabrook Station) operating license. Seabrook Station is located 13 miles south of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The application for renewal was submitted by NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC, in a letter dated May 25, 2010, pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54). As part of the NRC's review, a site-specific supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) to the Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GElS), NUREG-1437, has been prepared under 10 CFR Part 51, the NRC's regulation that implements the National Environment Policy Act of 1969, as amended. The SEIS includes an analysis of environmental issues, and in accordance with 36 CFR 800.8(c),

will include analyses of potential impacts to historic properties.

The Seabrook Station license renewal draft SEIS is available at:

The NRC is also requesting comments on the draft SEIS from the following contacts, who will also receive a copy of this letter: Abenaki Nation of New Hampshire, Cowasuck Band of Pennacook-Abenaki People, Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi, and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head-Aquinnah. Please submit any comments and questions that you may have on the environmental review by October 26, 2011. The NRC will hold two public meetings on September 15, 2011 at One Liberty Lane Conference Center, 1 Liberty Lane East, Hampton, NH 03842. The purpose for the meetings is to present findings, and solicit public comments on the draft SEIS. The first meeting will start at 1 :30 p.m., and the second at 7:00 p.m., and will be preceded by an informal "open house" beginning one hour prior to each meeting.
