It was submitted by Andreas Auner (bludoaq(tampabay.rr.com) on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11:19:37 DocumentTitle: Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Supplement 44 Regarding Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant Comments: Crystal River Unit 3 is vital to the energy supply of Florida. The unit is in place and has been recently upgraded to replace aging components and should be ready to supply power for another 20 years.
Repairs to the containment building will ensure safe operation during this time period, and the cost to the consumer is much less than building and operating another plant (of whatever type). Environmental impacts have already been assessed in the current operating license and additional restrictions should not be necessary.
Crystal River Unit 3 has a different design than the Japanese plants that are of concern to the public. The existing safety analysis process should be sufficient to resolve any additional identified accident scenarios. The unit does not emit greenhouse gasses as do any viable alternative power supplies.
The only logical course of action is to renew Crystal River 3 5TMs Operating License for another 20 years.
Thank You for the opportunity to comment.
