Dear Dr. Denton:

Docket 50-305 Operating License DPR-43 Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant Updated Final Safety Analysis Report Pursuant to 10CFR50.71(e), we transmit herewith, one signed orig inal, and twelve copies of the updated Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) for the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant. Sections of the FSAR which were r equired for the operating license application but which essentially are unch anged (i.e.

Appendix A, Geological and Seismological Studies; Appendix B, Special Design Procedures) are reprinted and included in the submittal for refe rence.

Other sections such as Appendix C Quality Assurance Program, and Appendix G Emergency Plan provide appropriate reference to docketed submitt als rather than the documents themselves.

Additionally, other sections have been revised to reflect comple ted rather than projected events (i.e. Section 13, Initial Test and Operation).

The program to update the FSAR was undertaken by utilization of a consultant who expended approximately 50 man-months of effort over an 18-month period.

WPS was also very involved in the review of draft sections to assure accuracy of the information submitted. With the management attention giv en to the project, WPS believes that the enclosed material accurately repr esents changes made and analyses developed since our last submittal and represe nts the current information and status of the plant as of December 31, 1981, wit h one exception; Section 12 represents our organization as of June 1, 1982.

With the need to also provide management attention to other NRC required projects

  • (i.e. Appendix R, TMI Modifications, Emergency Preparedness), it may be possible that because of the magnitude of the project, some inconsistenci es or errors may have not been identified and corrected. If any of these are identified we 8207270249 920721 PDR ADOCK 05000305 K PDR /

Dr. Harold R. Denton July 21, 1982 Page 2 will correct them during the next annual FSAR revision. If the item is deemed significant, we would discuss the item with our Resident Inspector and/or Project Manager to determine further actions.

Sincerely, C. W. Giesler Vice President - Nuclear Power js Enc.
