- NON EMERGENCY "At 0900 on 3/18/2011, Progress Energy Environmental Services determined that the cause of death was drowning for the deceased juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle recovered from the Crystal River Unit 3 Intake Structure on 3/18/11.
The mortality was causally related to station operations. This is the first causally related turtle fatality for the current reporting period.
Notification to the National Marine Fisheries Service will be made. This is 4-hour reportable per 10 CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi) as an event for which notification to other government agencies will be made."
Licensee will notify the NRC Resident Inspector.
R2DO (Nease) and the Endangered Species group both notified via E-mail.
