RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION
Dear Dr. Abdel-Khalik:
During the 580th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (Committee), held on February 10-12, 2011, the Committee completed its review of the license renewal application for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2, and 3 (PVNGS), and the associated final safety evaluation report prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In the Committees final report, dated March 1, 2011, the Committee recommended renewal of the PVNGS operating licenses. The NRC staff appreciates the Committees thorough review of the plants license renewal application and the associated final safety evaluation report. In particular, the Committees review of aging management programs for fatigue monitoring, inaccessible medium voltage cables, small-bore piping, and buried piping and tanks were particularly helpful as the NRC staff finalized its evaluation.
The NRC staff recognizes the Committees commitment to safety and appreciates its continued support of the license renewal process.
