Subject:

SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION PLUME PHASE EXERCISE OUTREACH TRAINING MARCH 24, 2011

Dear Ms. Kaminske:

Each year, NRC Region IV participates in selected licensee and state exercises. This gives the NRC the opportunity to demonstrate its ability to interface with licensees as well as State and other Federal agencies. On April 12, 2011, San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) will conduct an exercise of its emergency plan. The NRC will participate in this exercise with staff at the following locations: Region IV Incident Response Center, Arlington, TX, SONGS Emergency Operations Facility, and SONGS Joint Information Center.

On April 13-14, 2011, the State of California will conduct an ingestion pathway exercise. During the exercise, the NRC will join the Unified Command as the Lead Coordinating Agency and will assist in the coordination of federal agencies and assets.

Typically a few weeks prior to the exercise, the licensee conducts outreach training for the plume phase portion of the exercise at the NRC Region IV office for NRC exercise participants.

SONGS and NRC have scheduled this outreach training for March 24, 2011 at the Region IV Office in Arlington, TX. In the past, the Chair of the Interjurisdictional Planning Committee has participated in the training. We hope your schedule will permit your involvement in this outreach training. We look forward to your participation in the training and working with you during the exercise.

If you have questions regarding the San Onofre Outreach Training in Region IV, please contact Beth Alferink, Emergency Response Coordinator at 817.860.8169.

Sincerely,

/RA/
