SUMMARY
OF JANUARY 26, 2011, PUBLIC MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY REGARDING STEAM GENERATOR REPLACEMENT PROJECT AT SEOUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 On January 26, 2011, a Category 1 public meeting was held between Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA, the licensee).
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed steam generator replacement scheduled for fall 2012 for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Unit 2 (SON 2). The enclosure contains a list of attendees. The licensee's presentation slides may be accessed from the NRC Agencywide Documents Access and Management System, Accession No. ML110260450.
Highlights from the Meeting
- TVA provided an overview of the steam generator replacement project (SGRP), and addressed the following:
o SGRP overview o Required regulatory actions o Schedule for License Amendment Requests (LARs)
- TVA plans to submit several LARs related to SON 2 SGRP during the second and third quarter of this year.
The NRC staff recommended to consider Technical Specification Task Force (TSTF)
Improved Standard Technical Specifications Change Traveler, TSTF-510, Revision 2, "Revision to Steam Generator Program Inspection Frequencies and Tube Sample Selection," in lieu of TSTF-449, "Steam Generator Tube Integrity," for steam generator inspections. The NRC staff asked TVA to briefly address all Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR). Part 50, Section 50.59, changes associated with SGRP in the steam generator tube inspection LAR. In short, NRC is interested to see all Updated Final Safety Analysis Report changes resulting from 10 CFR 50.59 due to SGRP.
The NRC staff inquired about steam generator tube size and main steam orifice size for comparison purpose between existing steam generators and new steam generators.
TVA was not able to provide the information at this time.
