r DAILY STAFF NOTES REGION I February 23, 2009

" UPDATE: On February 19, Entergy identified that the source of the leakage associated with the buried return line to the Indian Point Unit 2 Condensate Storage Tank (CST) was a 1.5 inch hole in the pipe. On February 20, Entergy isolated the leakage area and initiated actions to replace the pipe. Entergy expects the replacement activities will be completed within 24 - 48 hours5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
. Additionally, Entergy's water sample analysis confirmed the leakage contained about 2000 picocuries per liter of tritium. It appears the majority of the leakage travelled to an adjacent man hole that flows to the discharge canal which is a monitored discharge source. The NRC is monitoring the licensee's actions and continues to provide outreach to key stakeholders.

 • On February 19-20, the Region II Regional Administrator and the Region I Director of the Division of Reactor Safety attended the Region I/Region II Plant.Manager's meeting in Williamsburg, VA.
