ACCEPTANCE FOR REVIEW OF STABILITY TOPICAL FOR ABWR, WCAP-17137-P (TAC NO. RG0068)
Dear Mr. McBurnett:
By letter dated November 1, 2010, STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) submitted for U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review Topical Report (TR) WCAP-17137, Westinghouse Stability Methodology for the ABWR. The NRC staff has performed an acceptance review of the Westinghouse Stability Methodology for the ABWR. We have found that the material presented is sufficient to begin our comprehensive review.
The staff expects to issue requests for additional information by June 30, 2011 and complete its review by March 31, 2012. The staff estimates that the review will require approximately 1100 staff hours including project management time. The review schedule milestones were discussed and agreed upon in a telephone conference between James Tomkins, STPNOC Licensing Engineer and the NRC staff on December 15, 2010.
Section 170.21 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations requires that topical reports are subject to fees based on the full cost of the review. You did not request a fee waiver, therefore staff hours will be billed accordingly.
