UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION II 245 PEACHTREE CENTER AVENUE NE, SUITE 1200 ATLANTA, GEORGIA 30303-1257 September 30, 2010 Mr. David A. Baxter Site Vice President Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC Oconee Nuclear Station 7800 Rochester Highway Seneca, SC 29672

SUBJECT:

CONFIRMATION OF REQUESTED INITIAL OPERATOR LICENSE EXAMINATIONS FOR OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION

Dear Mr. Baxter:

In a letter dated July 28, 2010, your staff responded to Regulatory Issue Summary 2010-08 and requested we schedule initial license operator examinations for Oconee Nuclear Station. Based on your letter and following discussions with your staff, we have scheduled the requested examinations as follows:

Plant /

Station 2011 2012 Date Applicants Date Applicants Oconee 5/2 9

6/11 9

10/17 9

12/10 9

On-site validation of the examinations is typically scheduled to occur approximately three weeks before each examination. If you have a need to change the dates of your scheduled exams from those listed above, please inform us in writing of your request and the reason for the change. Due to the large number of examinations scheduled to be administered at Region II sites, requests to change examination dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We will confirm any change in examination schedule with a follow-up letter.

We understand that your staff will develop the proposed examinations. Since your scheduled examinations have nine applicants, each examination is scheduled for one week. If applicants are added for future examinations, please inform us as this will impact the examination schedule.

A supplementary letter will be sent to each stations training manager approximately 120 days prior to the initial examination. The letter will provide the training manager with the chief examiners name, an outline of examination security expectations, a list of the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, and it will reconfirm the examination dates and the number of candidates you have in the training program. If you have any questions concerning this information, please contact Mr. Malcolm Widmann, Chief, Operations Branch, at 404-997-4550.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).
