SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF THE JUNE 22,2010, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT OPEN HOUSE AND PUBLIC MEETING On June 22,2010 at 4:00 p.m., the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted an Open House at the Brattleboro Union High School. During the Open House, NRC staff met informally with the public and Federal, State, and local officials. The Open House focused on the NRC's assessment of the safety performance of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VY) for calendar year 2009, and it also focused on the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations. Furthermore, a number of information stations were available to address a broad range of questions associated with Vermont Yankee.
Subsequently, at 6:00 p.m., a public meeting was held to present information on the assessment of the safety performance of VY for 2009, the NRC groundwater contamination task force, and the inspection of the Entergy response to the Demand for Information issued to VY on March 1,2010. Following the presentations, NRC staff responded to questions from both the public and elected and appointed officials. A list of meeting attendees is attached.
The NRC's assessment letter can be found on the NRC's public web page in ADAMS (ADAMS Accession No. ML100621409). A notice of the meeting was issued on June 3, 2010, and was posted on the NRC's public web page (ADAMS Accession No. ML101540331).
