Callback: (949) 368-9008 "San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 and 3 "A notification was made to the NRC Operations Center (Mr. M. Abramovitz answering) on January 22, 2010 at 1046 PST as follows:

"On Friday, January 22, 2010, at approximately 0841 PST, the San Onofre Generating Station (SONGS) Control Room was notified of an injured pelican in the north security hold down area of SONGS. The pelican was alive, but caught in razor wire on the hold down. SCE confirmed that the bird was a brown pelican and protected by the Endangered Species Act.

"SCE notified the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of this discovery at about -945 PST. Therefore, SCE is providing this 4-hour report to the NRC in accordance with 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi) for notification of another government agency.

"The pelican was transferred to the Pacific Wildlife Center at 1015 PST on January 22, 2010, for rehabilitation.

"Although there is no evidence to indicate that the birds injuries was causally related to plant operations, this report will also satisfy the 24-hour reporting requirement contained in Appendix B, Section 4.1 of the Units 2 and 3 Operating License, which requires reporting of Unusual Environmental Events.

"At the time of this report, Unit 2 was in a Steam Generator Replacement Outage and Unit 3 was operating at about 100 percent power. The NRC Resident Inspectors have
