- TRITIUM IN IA NORTH CW INTAKE LINE Description A THRU WALL LEAK IDENTIFIED IN THE UNIT I A/N CW INTAKE PIPE (WR 327489) WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN TRITIUM IN THE GROUNDWATER LEAKING INTO THE PIPE. THE TRITIUM CONCENTRATION WAS FOUND TO BE 1.187E-5 MICROCURIES PER MILLILITER (11,870 PICOCURIES PER LITER).
RADIATION CONTROL HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.

03/271/08 The tritium activity of 11.870 pCi/L is below the ODCM limit of 30,000 pCilt and, as such, is not reportable as a new sample in excess of this limit.
Additionally, there is no indication that this constitutes a new leak or a leak from a high risk system (e.g., CST).
The water is welling up from the ground, indicating it is the same groundwater issue most recently reported in March 2008.
There is no indication of leakage from a new source; the nearest potential source would be the CST.
Tritium activity in the CST is significantly higher.
The original report from June 2007 reported the suspected seepage from the storm drain stabilization pond.
The follow-up report from March 2008 discussed the apparent new inadvertent pathway leading to the tritium levels found in well 2C.
These previous reports have made it clear that onsite groundwater contains tritium and we are continuing to evaluate its source and corrective actions to be taken.
This is a continuation of the issue as already reported and, as such, no need to make an additional voluntary report.
