American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section Xl, Inservice Inspection Program, Request to Use Subsequent Edition of ASME Section Xl Code for Repair and Replacement Activities In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section Xl, Subarticle IWA-4150(b),

the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is requesting approval to adopt the requirements of the 2004 Edition of the ASME Section Xl Code, Subarticle IWA-4000, "Repair/Replacement Activities," in its entirety, and all related requirements for repair and replacement activities for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), Units 1 and 3.

The ASME Section Xl Code of record for the current BFN Units 1 and 3, 10-year Inservice Inspection Interval is the 2001 Edition, 2003 Addenda. TVA requests approval to adopt the 2004 Edition of the ASME Section XI Code for repair and replacement activities for printed on recycled paper

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 July 1, 2010 Units 1 and 3, effective May 25, 2011. BFN Unit 2 will adopt the 2004 Edition of the ASME Section XI Code for its fourth 10-Year Inspection Interval which begins on May 25, 2011 as submitted by TVA letter to NRC dated March 31, 2010. This requested change will allow all three BFN units to use the same ASME Section Xl Code requirements for repair and replacement activities.

This request applies to the BFN, Units 1 and 3 current 10-year inservice inspection intervals. BFN, Unit 1, is in the second 10-year Inservice Inspection Interval which will end June 1, 2017. BFN, Unit 3, is in the third 10-year Inservice Inspection Interval which will end November 18, 2015.

TVA requests approval of this request by March 1, 2011 to allow repair and replacement program revisions to support TVA's proposed May 25, 2011 implementation date.
