SUMMARY
OF THE JUNE 3, 2010, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2009 BRAIDWOOD STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On June 3, 2010, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Fossil Ridge Public Library Meeting Room in Braidwood, Illinois. The meeting was between NRC Region III and Exelon Generation Company representatives to discuss the NRCs 2009 End-of-Cycle Assessment of Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, safety performance. The results of that assessment were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 3, 2010, which can be found in ADAMS at ML100610223.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC and the nuclear industry, the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) and national ROP results. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs 2009 assessment of safety performance for Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2. The NRCs meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML101590159 and the licensees presentation slides can be found at ML101590147. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached Enclosure.
Mr. Amir Shahkarami, Braidwood Site Vice President, provided an oral response to the NRCs assessment. Mr. Shahkarami concurred with the NRCs assessment that Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, were operated in a manner that preserved the health and safety of the public and the environment. In addition, Mr. Shahkarami discussed the licensee's view on the human performance substantive cross-cutting issue. Mr. Shahkarami also described some of the actions the licensee is taking to address this issue.
At the end of the meeting, both the NRC staff and the licensee answered questions from members of the public.
