Dear Administrator Jackson and Chairman Jaczko:

TT1 light of recent reports that indicate that radioactive water from the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant has reached a major underground aquifer that supplies drinking water to much of the southern New Jersey region, I am writing to request that you investigate this matter further and conduct water tests.

In April 2009, the NRC granted a new 20-year license to the Oyster Creek plant, the nation's oldest commercial nuclear reactor plant. Several days later, radioactive-water leaks from underground pipes at the plant were found. The contaminated water is tainted with tritium which has been linked to cancer if it is ingested or absorbed through the skin in large amounts. What makes this incident especially worrisome and troubling is that radioactive water leaks were found a year ago, and it is apparent that the plant owner, Exelon Corporation, has not executed sufficient plans to contain this contaminated waler. Further, this water is now moving toward the region's water source. This is unacceptable.

Without a full investigation, we will not be able to ascertain the extent of the contamination and determine the necessary and proper stcps the plant operator, the NRC and the EPA need to take to halt the spread of this contaminated water. Protecting our region's water source is a priority.

Thousands of families and children trust that the water they use in their homes, schools, and places of business are safe to drink and use. Protecting clean water and ensuring a better quality of life for our communities, families, and children is pivotal. I look forward to your prompt response.
