Updated Final Safety Analysis Report Amendment 8 Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.71(e), enclosed for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (WBN), Unit 1, is a compact disc (CD-ROM) that contains Amendment 8 of the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR). The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is submitting this amendment in accordance with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) Electronic Information Exchange.
Amendment 8 reflects changes and analyses made since the issuance of Amendment 7 on September 23, 2008. This includes editorial corrections and changes in design pursuant to 10 CFR 50.59, "Changes, Tests, and Experiments." A summary of the evaluations made under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59 is being provided under a separate letter.
TVA contacted the NRC Information and Records Services Division to confirm acceptability of the enclosed amendment because some documents, including some of the figures in Amendment 8, will not be text searchable. TVA has added text searchable title blocks to the figures that were updated for Amendment 8 and TVA will continue this practice for future amendments until the licensing of WBN, Unit 2 is complete. Following licensing of WBN, Unit 2, the Unit 2 Final Safety Analysis Report will be merged with the Unit 1 UFSAR to create a UFSAR that addresses both units. That amendment will be a significant update to the UFSAR which may affect numerous figures contained in the UFSAR.
Discussion with the NRC Information and Records Services Division also addressed an,,
Adobe Preflight error that indicated that the resolution of numerous figures was slightly less (e.g., 299.97 dpi) than the required 300 dpi and that for certain figures "black printed on recycled paper C

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 April 20, 2010 overprint was off." This discussion confirmed that the errors were not significant and do not affect the acceptability of the amendment.
This letter certifies that the information provided in the enclosed Amendment 8 accurately reflects information and analysis from changes made since the issuance of Amendment 7.
