SIT Status (Oct 30 2009)
Mark/Eric The SIT attended the 7:30 status meeting conducted by Garry Miller. Yesterday the focus was be on the bay where the delamination was originally discovered, between Buttresses #3 and #4. LCT technicians continued NDE in Panels M and part of P and will continue today on the panels below (Panels P (to complete the part which was not done yesterday) and S). (These are the panels to the left of the construction opening.) The NDE work will then shift to the panels below the construction opening (Panels V, W, X, Y, Z, and AA). (See page 3 of the plan which I sent late Monday for a good idea of where these locations are on the Containment Building.) As scaffolding can be built to support their efforts, the LCT technicians will work on the Panels on the right side of the construction opening (Panels 0, R, and U).
Confirmatory core drilling was done in Panel J, where two core bores were taken in the delaminated area, and one was taken in Panel M. These core bores are being assessed by the licensee. The holes will be inspected using a boroscope to try to identify any cracking, gaps, or delamination. A previously taken 4-inch diameter core in Panel J will be enlarged to an 8-inch diameter to allow mounting of strain gauges so that the behavior around the construction opening can be monitored during the detensioning efforts during the repair work of the construction opening.
