Summary of October 19th Conference Call with SIT on Crystal River 3 Containment Delamination Issue Kamal, Farideh, PIs let me know if this adequately represents a summary of the call that you all had with the SIT... George provided me a verbal briefing of the results of the call and I want to ensure that I captured it correctly... pls comment on the bullets below, so that I can send out a summary to the ET/LT... thanks!

Summary of October 19, 2009, Conference Call with SIT Regarding CR3 Containment Delamination Issue

Progress Energy's (PE's) initial examination of the grid next to the containment opening (between buttresses 3 and 4) clearly identified delamination of the concrete.

However, PE's the initial examination of the grid away from the opening (between buttresses 4 and 5),

did not identify delamination of the concrete.

Core bore sample was taken for the grid next to the opening and PE is sending the samples to 2 independent labs for petrographic analysis.

PE has finalized its contracts for the NDE testing and is in the process of finalizing contracts for root cause and design basis analysis.

PE has quarantined all debris taken out of the opening and secured the removed tendons. It plans to send debris for petrographic analysis and will keep all other debris and removed tendons for any future exams as necessary.

NRR has an action item to inform the SIT of whether there is any benefit for the agency to perform independent petrographic analysis.

Addtitional photos and information from those that were present during cutting the containment will be collected to understand what happened.

A question was asked on what is the minimum that PE has to look and what are the criteria for extending or not extending taking sample.

Farideh
