REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- 1. Provide us with Drawing No. 9521-F-2503 as shown on Indian Point Unit 2, Drawing No. 9321-F-2508.
- 2. Provide us with the coupling details (listed as "AG", "AH", "AE",
and "AF", on drawing for Zion) for instrument tubes.
- 3. Can the portion of the instrument tubes between the aforementioned couplings be removed?
- 4. How are the radiation levels in the reactor cavity affected when either the instrument tubes or thimbles are removed, and also f the entire core is removed?
- 5. Can the instrument tubes be supported from the top or sidewalls of the reactor cavity instead of the floor?
- 6. Can the radius of curvature of the instrument tubes be decreased from 12 feet to approximately 4 feet to allow more space between the bottom of the instrument tubes and the floor of the reactor cavity?
- 7. What are the maintenance requirements for the instrument tubes?
- 8. Can temporary shielding be installed in the reactor cavity to allow workers to remain there for longer periods of time without exceeding occupational dose limits.
If it is not feasible to install temporary shielding, how long can people work in this environment?
- 9. Do the instrument tubes require air cooling on the exterior surface.
- 10.
Do the instrument tubes require any space to accormmodate thermal expansion.
- 11.
Provide us with drawings that show the plan view and exact dimensions of the reactor cavity floor, and how the space varies laterally between the bottom of the instrument tubes and the floor of the reactor cavity.
- 12.
How thick is the reactor cavity floor concrete on top of the steel liner?
Can this concrete be removed? What are the structural consequences of removing this concrete?
- 13.
Provide us with drawings that show the number and location of containment sumps.
- 14.
Discuss ways of bringing coolant pipes into the region of the reactor cavity floor.
-2
- 15.
Discuss the access provisions to the lower reactor cavity, including drawings that show dimensions of such access.
- 16.
What additional weight, fluid pressure and impact loads can the reactor cavity floor sustain during core melt accident conditions
