Sensitive - Oyster Creek Status as of 6/11 Attachments: OC figure 1 update.pdf The following is an update on Oyster Creek tritium leakage issue - status as of June 11, 2009 Note: The attached Map should be handled as "Security Sensitive Information" and distribution should be controlled TOPICS

1. Closure of original excavation which contained 8" and 10" line The excavation is expected to be more difficult due to the line being 8 feet underground and being under an engineered vault. Licensee expects to excavate over a 10 and 1/2 day period with inspection beginning June 23. NRC Region I inspectors are planning to be on site the week of June 22.
3. Root Cause Status/Failure analysis (b)(5)

As part of root cause, the licensee's contractor who, conducted Guided wave analysis, is performing a root cause and has been reviewing other analysis results for tests conducted.

4. Sample results The attached sensitive map presents results as of June 2.

The following additional results (pCi/I) were obtained based on June 9 samples that have not yet been added to map.

5. New well development/ Remedlatlon options The licensee had installed a well (MW-55) to be tested for use in possible remediation. The licensee will conduct an 8 hour9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> pump test today (6/12) and monitor other wells to evaluate capability to draw down other wells. The licensee will also conduct a 48 hour5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br /> pump test next week of the same well. The licensee has installed a 20,000 gallon frac tank to collect the water.
6. Ucensee outreach The licensee indicated it has not received a lot of questions recently on on-going activities. The licensee plans to hold a community outreach next Thursday (6118) at its Education Center from 4-7 PM to discuss various issues and have displays Including IFSI, tritium Issues, security etc. The licensee does not expect lawmakers to be present (Senator Connors, Assemblymen Rumpf or Van Pelt) The licensee expects NJ representatives from NJ DEP Bureau of Nuclear Engineering to be present but not have a booth.
7. NRC activities.

Inspection activities are continuing associated with this issue. Inspectors plan on being onsite portions of weeks of June 15 and June 22.
