Dear Sir / Madam:

Subject:

VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (VCSNS) UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SUPPLEMENT TO LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST - LAR 04-02911 LICENSE AMENDMENT AND RELATED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION CHANGES TO IMPLEMENT FULL-SCOPE ALTERNATIVE SOURCE TERM IN ACCORDANCE WITH 10 CFR 50.67 Pursuant to our telephone conversation on September 24, 2009, South Carolina Electric & Gas Company submits the requested supplemental information for Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Unit No. 1 to support your review of License Amendment Request - LAR 04-02911, License Amendment and Related Technical Specification Changes to Implement Full Scope Alternative Source Term In Accordance With 10 CFR 50.67, dated February 17, 2009.

The enclosed VCSNS specific calculation was performed to account for additional sources of acids and bases that would be produced in containment during a LOCA in order to quantify their impact on prior minimum pH predictions. The calculation (DC000401 10, Rev 0, "Post LOCA Sump pH Effect from Miscellaneous Sources") is based on the methods outlined in NUREG/CR-5950 (Iodine Evolution and pH Control, Revision 3, December 1992) and the release fractions defined in USNRC Regulatory Guide 1.183 (Alternate Radiological Source Terms for Evaluating Design Basis Accidents at Nuclear Power Reactors).

There are no regulatory commitments made in this supplement.

If you should have any questions regarding this submittal, please contact Mr. Bruce L.

I certify under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
