SUMMARY
OF MEETING ON NOVEMBER 12, 2009, TO DISCUSS THE LICENSEE'S ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY FOR STEAM DRYERS FOR A PROPOSED POWER UPRATE APPLICATION (TAC NO. ME2423)
On November 12, 2009, members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with representatives from Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy, the licensee), at NRC Headquarters, Two White Flint North, 11545 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD. The licensee was accompanied by representatives from its contractors, General Electric - Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) and Lucius Pitkin, Inc. The meeting was a Category 1 public meeting. Portions of the meeting were closed due to the proprietary nature of the information that was discussed.
The meeting was requested by the licensee to discuss its use of the GEH plant based load evaluation methodology to analyze the steam dryers as part of a proposed extended power uprate (EPU) application for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). The licensee currently intends to submit its application in July 2010.
The licensee presented a status of its steam dryer analysis and how the analysis may be integrated into the EPU application. The licensee then described the GEH methodology and the bias, uncertainties, and margins used in the steam dryer evaluation.
The NRC staff provided comments for consideration by the licensee in the preparation of its application.
