Reactor and Senior Reactor Operator Initial Examinations

Reference:

1. NRC letter to TVA dated August 26, 2009, Notification of Licensed Operator Initial Examination 05000390/2009302
2. TVAs letter to NRC dated October 2, 2009 - Reactor and Senior Reactor Operator Initial Examinations Reference 1 requested that TVA provide by October 5, 2009, the written examinations, operating tests, and the supporting reference materials identified for the license examinations that will begin on November 30, 2009. Reference 2 documented that the requested materials were mailed to Mr. Edwin Lea, NRC Region II, on October 2, 2009.

Subsequent to this, changes were made to the written examinations and operating tests to address comments provided by NRC. During NRCs on-site preparatory week, Mr. Lea informed TVAs principal contact for the examinations, Mr. Darrell Hensley, WBN Operations Training, that the updated documents should be provided to him on or before November 16, 2009. This letter documents that the updated examinations and tests were delivered to Mr. Lea on the requested schedule by members of WBNs Operations Training staff.

U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 November 13, 2009 This letter contains no new commitments, and in accordance with 10 CFR 55.49, Integrity of examinations and tests, and NUREG 1021, Operator Licensing Examination Standards for Power Reactors, appropriate measures have been taken to ensure examination integrity and security. Accordingly, TVA requests that the written examinations, operating tests, and the associated documentation be withheld from public disclosure until the examinations are completed later this year. This request is consistent with the guidance provided in Attachment 1 of ES 201 of NUREG 1021.

As stated previously, TVAs principal contact regarding the license examinations is Mr. Darrell Hensley, WBN Operations Training. Should you require additional information regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Hensley at (423) 365-3544 or Mike Brandon, Site Licensing Manager, at (423) 365-1824.
