Subject:

SCHEDULE FOR PERFORMING MATERIAL STRESS IMPROVEMENT PROCESS FOR PRESSURIZER CONNECTIONS The purpose of this letter is to provide the schedule for performing Material Stress Improvement Process (MSIP) for the WBN Unit 2 pressurizer connections. This activity is currently scheduled to start on January 18, 2010, with a two week duration. TVA expects to perform MSIP on the vessel connections later in 2010.

To ensure this activity could be performed under the rules of ASME Section III construction, TVA's contractor responsible for ASME issues, M. N. Bressler, P.E., Inc., requested an interpretation from ASME. Enclosure 1 provides the ASME question and affirmative reply concerning the use of stress improvement techniques under ASME Section III.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (423) 365-2351.

Sincerely, Masoud a' stani Watts B#nit 2 Vice President
