SUPPLEMENTAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Mr. Sena:
By letter dated August 27, 2007, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted, for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review, an application to renew the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2, operating licenses for up to an additional 20 years. The license renewal application (LRA) was submitted pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants. The NRC staff issued a safety evaluation report (SER) in June 2009. In order to clarify their position on supplemental volumetric examinations of the containment liners, FENOC provided the NRC supplemental information for the review of the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 LRA on July 28, 2009, September 2, 2009, September 4, 2009, September 8, 2009, and September 14, 2009.
On the basis of its review, the staff has developed the enclosed Supplement 1 to the SER to document its findings associated with the safety review of the supplemental volumetric examinations on Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the license renewal Project Manager, Kent Howard by telephone at 301-415-2989 or by e-mail at Kent.Howard@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA by Samson S. Lee Acting For/
