UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS WASHINGTON, DC 20555 - 0001 August 10, 2009 Mr. Theodore Robinson, Esq.

Citizen Power 2121 Murray Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15217

Dear Mr. Robinson:

This letter is in response to your letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) dated July 7, 2009, regarding your concerns with the containment liners at Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2, and your belief that the proposed inspection techniques are insufficient given the discovery of corrosion that went through-wall on Unit 1. In its July 2009 Full Committee Meeting, the ACRS made your letter part of the record of the meeting and considered it in the deliberations regarding the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 license renewal application.

In addition, the ACRS has brought this matter to the attention of NRC management for appropriate disposition by the NRC staff.

The ACRS plans to continue its discussions of the Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 license renewal application at its September 10-12, 2009 meeting. On behalf of the ACRS, I would like to thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Edwin M. Hackett, Executive Director Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards
