Additional RAI question on GL 2004-02/GSI-191 that resulted from our June 22, 2009 phone call Jim/Frizie, By letter dated January 7, 2009 (ADAMS Accession No. ML083300173) the Nuclear Regulatory Commission sent FPL Energy Point Beach, LLC (licensee), a request for additional information (RAI) regarding Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02 "Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation During Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized Water Reactors," for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant.
During a telephone conference on June 22, 2009, with the licensee on the outstanding RAI responses, the NRC staff determined an additional question was necessary to add to ones sent on Janurary 7, 2009. The additional question is as follows:
- 25. Please provide an evaluation for the potential of deaeration of the sump fluid as it passes through the debris bed on the strainer. If deaeration can occur, please evaluate the effect that this can have on required net positive suction head on pumps taking suction from the sump as described in Reg Guide 1.82, Rev. 3, Appendix A.
Include the answer to this question with the upcoming submittal scheduled for the end of July 2009.
