BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 - WITHDRAWAL OF RELIEF REQUEST (2-ISI-22) FOR REPAIR OF CLASSES 1, 2, AND 3 AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL PIPING (TAC NO. ME1320)

Dear Mr. Swafford:

By letter dated May 18, 2009, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the licensee submitted a relief request (RR) for Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 2 to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The proposed RR was to utilize a system leakage test in accordance with IWA-5000 in lieu of the hydrostatic test required by Code Case N-504-3.

By letter dated May 21, 2009, the licensee requested to withdraw RR 2-ISI-22 application from NRC review (Agencywide Document Access and Management System Accession No. ML091470283) due to the fact that the flaw did not penetrate the pressure boundary during welding operations. We acknowledge your request to withdraw the application. As a result, NRC staff activities on the review have ceased and the associated Technical Assignment Control Number (No. ME1320) has been closed.
